Game 1
Ian Desmond breaks the game open with a 3-run home run in the 6th inning. Andrew Heaney
gets the win with 5.2 effective innings and three relievers hold the lead for COU in a
5-2 game one victory.
Game 2
Eduardo Rodriguez dominates for Chicago, giving up only a second inning home run to
Yasiel Puig and one other hit for a complete game victory. Prince Fielder leads the
offense with a 3-run homer and and RBI single, while Ian Kinsler tags a solo home run
and Ben Revere drives in a pair en route to the 8-1 win.
Game 3
Chris Archer led the Cougars to victory in game 3, allowing only one run and pitching into
the eighth inning. Chicago manufactured their runs with 14 singles and 5 walks, with every
member of the starting lineup chipping in at least one hit, leading to the 5-1 final score.
Game 4
In a crazy back-and-forth game, Chicago scored two runs in the top of the eighth to take
a 4-3 lead, only to see Tri-State answer back with two of their own in the bottom of the
frame for a 5-4 lead. Chicago then came back again in the ninth to tie the game, and have
the go-ahead run on third base with no outs. Luke Gregerson escaped the jam, stranding the
runner with a pair of strikeouts and a grounder. The game stayed 5-5 until the bottom of
the twelfth, when A.J. Pollock sent the fans home happy with a walk-off two run homer.
Game 5
A.J. Pollock and Anthony Rizzo had RBI hits in the first inning, and those two runs turned
out to be all Tri-State needed. Aaron Nola and three relievers held Chicago to two hits
and a single run in the 2-1 victory. Luke Gregerson retired all five batters he faced for
the save.
Game 6
The offenses could get nothing going against Roenis Elias and Eduardo Rodriguez in another
low scoring affair. The game went into the ninth inning tied at one. Andre Ethier led off
the bottom of the ninth with a triple and Michael Bourn pinch ran for him. Jonathan Papelbon
came in to try to work out of the jam, and it appeared he succeeded when pinch hitter James
Loney flied to center and A.J. Pollock gunned out Bourn at the plate for a double play.
However, Chicago was not finished, as Ryan Braun immediately tripled, and Adrian Beltre came
through with a walk-off single to win the game, 2-1. Chad Allen struck out all four batters
he faced and was credited with the victory.
